GPS Waypoints

The following is a list of GPS marks throughout Australia. I have not fished, dived, or even visited every one of these locations, so cannot guarantee they fit the descriptions. All GPS locations are in WGS84 datum. This section is continuously being updated, so check back for new marks regularly.

The lists may be downloaded in various formats below. All files include GPS marks for Australia’s Eastern Seaboard only. Other regions will be added in time:

Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader will read various file formats and may be downloaded free of change. The files provided here in .pdf format are for use with the Adobe Reader software. Click here to download Adobe Reader.

Google Earth

To view the downloaded list in Google Earth, select ‘Open’ from the File menu, or press Control+O. Navigate to the folder to which you saved the .kmz file, and select the appropriate file. The place marks should appear in the ‘My Places’ list. Right click on any point and select the ‘properties’ item from the menu to view additional information.

Magellan

The Magellan files are for use with the Magellan eXplorist XL GPS unit. They may be compatible with other units, but this is not guaranteed.  The following instructions are for use with the eXplorist XL unit:

Turn on the unit with the USB cable connected to your PC. Upon powering up, the unit will automatically go into ‘USB File Transfer’ Mode. If this does not happen, it can be activated via Menu > Adv. Features > Communications > File Transfer Mode. When prompted, select ‘Internal Memory’ from the menu.

With the unit in the correct mode, it will appear as a removable disk in ‘My Computer’. Copy and paste the .upt file into the ‘My POI’s’ folder. Upon disconnecting the unit from your computer, or disabling File Transfer Mode, the new POI list will appear under the POI menu and the place marks can be viewed by selecting the corresponding POI file. If you’re unsure how to select the POI file on your eXplorist XL, refer to the instruction manual. The instruction manual may be downloaded here.

Raymarine

These files may be downloaded to an SD flash card and can be used in conjunction with the Raymarine C-Series and E-Series chartplotters. See the Raymarine website for more information.
